The Greek Film Society of Sydney will be showing the 1970 film Reconstruction next Thursday to finish their film season from January. Directed by Theo Angelopoulos, the film was shot during the Junta years and is based on a true story, tracking the backstory of a murder.

Shot in black and white, the film recounts through flash-backs the murder of a returning migrant worker by his wife and her lover in a remote village. Through the police ‘reconstruction’ of events and the portrait of a slowly dying community, the film resonates to wider national realities of cultural depression.

The film won numerous awards, including the best film, director, cinematography, and actress awards at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 1971.

Before the film there will be an introduction by Dr Vasilis Adrahtas.

Reconstruction, Thursday 19 June, 7.00 pm at the Cyprus Community Club, 58 Stanmore Road, Stanmoe, NSW. For more information visit greekfilmsocietysydney.com/
