Just because you’re not in Greece for the renowned Apokries festival doesn’t mean you have to miss out!

The Greek community of Hobart will be hosting their very own Apokries dance, giving you the opportunity to dress up in costume and have some fun.

Greece’s version of a masquerade party, the festival has its origins in ancient Greece in honour of Dionysus, the god of wine and joy.

Once celebrated to signal the end of winter, it now takes a religious focus, taking place before Ash Monday after which a 40-day fast for Lent commences.

Entertainment on the night will include prizes, games, competitions, a raffle and tunes spun by DJ Con V.

A ticketed event, ticket cost: Adults $30/children 11 and under $15/children 4 and under enter free of charge.

When: Saturday 21 February, 2015 at 6.30 pm.
