Victorian Premier League club Northcote City is in for a treat. The Under 17s are off to Budapest in March to play the best euro teams.

Thanks to former South Melbourne Coach, Ferenc Puskas, the annual Puskas Cup brings together different junior teams to compete in a five day knockout tournament.

The tournament aim is to offer talented young footballers the chance to measure themselves internationally at the Under-17 age level.

The Northcote City boys will be up against the best young talent from Greek team Panathinaikos, Spanish team Real Madrid and Austrian team Rapid Vienna.

Our Aussie team will be coached by former Socceroo and South Melbourne great Alan Davidson and Northcote City assistant coach Socrates Nicolaides.

The Australians will arrive in Europe early where they will play friendlies against some Austrian teams in order to better prepare themselves for the Cup. The team is funding the trip by themselves, players paying for their own airfares. The team is also looking for extra sponsorship.
