An unusual, yet touching story took place in Crete in July with the ‘tramp’ saving the ‘lady’ and vice versa.

Georgia Bradley, a Plymouth university student, was enjoying her holidays in the Greek island when her serenity was disrupted by what was reported as an attack by two strangers.

“I decided to go for a walk along the beach, and found two Greek men who kept harassing me to go out for a drink, I kept telling them I didn’t want to.

“Then one of them grabbed me on the arm and I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was on my own and it was a very scary and difficult situation”, said Ms Bradley, who found herself helpless, with her boyfriend being at a nearby café, unaware of what was happening.

All of a sudden, a small black dog appeared on the scene and started barking at the two men finally succeeding in scaring them away.

Pepper – as the dog was named by Ms Bradley after their uncommon “acquaintance” – stayed by the girl’s side until the end of her stay on the island.

The 25 year old student assumed the dog was abandoned, having seen it wandering around alone.

As the day of her departure was nearing, she asked a local animal shelter to accept the stray dog in the premises; however her efforts were to no avail.

“When we left to go to the airport, we looked back and Pepper was running after the car. It was heartbreaking”, said Ms Bradley.

It seems that the bond Mrs Bradley developed with her ‘saviour’ was that strong that upon her arrival home, in Calstock, Cornwall, she decided to go back to Crete and pursue the adoption of Pepper.

What followed was a five week search mission, two trips back and forth to the island and several thousands spent for the finalisation of the process.

Oddly enough, Pepper was tracked down at Georgioupoli beach, the very same location where the incident had taken place.

After the dog was confirmed as a stray, a costly process began including microchipping, legal documentation and 21 days of quarantine before the permission was given by authorities for the dog to travel to the UK.

Not a week had gone by since their arrival to the UK, before Pepper gave birth to six puppies.

“It has been such a crazy journey, but I am over the moon. Pepper has settled in brilliantly”, Mrs Bradley commented.
