Bullies could face a minimum six-month prison term if found guilty if a special provision drafted by Greek Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos becomes law.

The provision, which the ministry says was expected to fill a legal vacuum, is being drafted as part of legislation regarding the abolition of C-type maximum security prisons.

The provision was announced following the death of student Vangelis Giakoumakis who took his own life on February 6 a few hundred meters away from his Dairy School dormitory in Ioannina, northern Greece.

An investigation surrounding the circumstances of his disappearance and death led to evidence that he had been repeatedly and violently abused by students at the farming college.
