George Calombaris has been charged with common assault following an altercation with a teen fan at the A-League grand final on Sunday.

The MasterChef judge was seen on footage shot by The World Game pushing a 19-year-old at the Allianz Stadium after Sydney FC managed a victory against Melbourne Victory, which ended with the involvement of police.

In the footage, the celebrity chef and restaurateur is seen talking to FFA's chief executive David Gallop while fans from the stands yelled out to him with taunts, some of which were said to be related to the recent bungle in which he was found to have underpaid his staff by $2.6 million.

The 38-year-old is then seen walking over to the fans and pushing the 19-year-old before police finally intervened and fellow MasterChef Judge Matt Preston walks him away.

Calombaris issued an official statement on Monday in which he admitted to not being proud of his reaction.

"I am really disappointed with what occurred last night. I was genuinely shocked when post-match football banter turned into personal abuse about my family," he said.

"I regret the way in which I reacted, I am disappointed that I let it get to me, and I sincerely apologise for offending anyone.
"While I am not proud of my reaction to the situation, I was offended by a spectator yelling out abusive and derogatory comments about my family.
"I have spoken to Melbourne Victory FC and Football Federation Australia today to report the situation and I'm truly sorry that this has happened."
