Greek Australian celebrity chef George Calombaris is currently writing a story about his plan to save Greece from its current predicament.
The famous MasterChef judge was recently faced with Greece’s dire state when he was stopped at the airport and forced to reveal the amount of money he was taking back to Australia.
“When you’re wandering through customs and get a tap on the shoulder to ask how much cash you’re taking out of the country, you sort of go ‘geez, this isn’t good’,” Calombaris said.
“Greeks have the best country in the world in terms of climate, the islands, the beauty, the culture. Unfortunately, it has been given to the wrong people. It’s been mismanaged.”
The 36-year-old chef emphasised that his agenda does not involve any sort of financial plan, but instead offers a key to the emotional salvation of Greece’s people.
“If I was running the country, I would make tourism double or triple within three years.
“Why wouldn’t you want to travel to Greece, it is beautiful,” he added, stressing that “there also has to be a law and a rule.”
Calombaris, who travels to Europe at least once a year, highlighted that recent events in Greece should make Australian citizens realise how lucky they are to live in this country.
“I think the moral of the story is this, as Australians we need to look at this when we whinge about the dumb stuff; there is a reason why.”
