Promoted as being “the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth”, Maker Faire is travelling to Athens, Greece, for a weekend of fun, craftsmanship and inventions. Stemming from San Mateo, California, Maker Faire is a staple of the events calendar in both the West and East Coast in the US and for the past twenty years, it has been expanding its reach to Berlin, Paris, Rome and Tokyo, among oter cities, bringing together the international “Makers” community, that is amateur scientists, tech enthusiasts, crafters and garage tinkerers, eager to present their ‘inventions’ and creations. 85 makers will take part in the exhibition, which covers all areas of invention, including crafts, mechanics, innovation and food.

The event will also include 30 talks and workshops, covering anything from 3D printing to coding to macrame.

A family-friendly event, the Mini Maker Faire is hailed as a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Do-it-yourself technology is on the rise, taking advantage of the affordability of tools and the emergence of new funding options, such as crowdfunding. For many in Greece, such events can prove to be an outlet of creativity, innovation, or even an opportunity to market their skills. The 1st Athens Maker Faire takes place this weekend at the Exhibition Center of Peristieri.
