22 Dec 2011

A Cyprus court acquitted a defunct airline and four of its former executives of manslaughter and negligence charges over a crash in August 2005 which killed 121 people.

The Helios Airways Boeing 737-300 was traveling from Larnaca in Cyprus to Prague when it crashed north of Athens, killing everyone on board. One of the three judges opposed the ruling, saying the pilots were responsible for the drop in cabin pressure on board the Helios flight. The two other judges ruled that the crash had nothing to do with the competence of the pilots and that the testimonies were incongruous.
