One of the leading producers and promoters and of course, a renowned DJ, Krazy Kon has been wowing audiences for a long time.

His career has taken him all over Australia and the world. With the 16th instalment of his ‘GREECE’ series and a massive party planned on Boxing Day in Sydney, preceded by a Christmas event in Adelaide, what else is happening in the world of Krazy Kon?

Fresh from his promotion of Greek band Vegas and the launch of his new album, Neos Kosmos gleaned a few minutes with Kon.

Billy Cotsis (BC): I recall watching you play in 1995, my first year as a university student. It’s been two decades. Did you ever think you would last this long?
Krazy Kon (KK): It’s been a great ride. I have worked hard to get where I am today. I’m glad I am still doing what I love to do and that is to entertain people through my CD releases, performances and events. We have written a story.

BC: Tell me about the ‘GREECE’ CD series. How did the series come about and what can you tell us about the latest offering, ‘GR2015 Summer Sessions’?
(KK): The series came about 12 years ago. I wanted to be the first DJ/producer outside of Greece anywhere in the world to have my own CD series. I worked for a year on the project to get it off the ground. We had a lot of road blocks. But I would not give up on my dream and I was given an opportunity in 2003. The rest is history, as they say.
The new CD is the 16th release in my ‘GREECE’ series. We worked seven weeks with seven different record labels in Greece and produced a super CD featuring 20 big summer tracks. It has all the hits from the Greek summer, a very strong track listing and an awesome mix. Press play and let it take off.

BC: I remember reading about your tour to North America, ironically when I was in New York. How often do you tour, any highlights?
KK: I love the States. Just being recognised and asked to go perform over there has been a major highlight of my career. I have now played 10 shows in six cities in the last four years over there. I have played in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston and Tampa. I tour over there every two years.

BC: What was it like the first time your music entered the top 40 ARIA Compilation Charts?
KK: Exciting. To chart in the ARIAs or iTunes Dance charts is a major statement we are making for the CD series and for Greek music in general. The ‘GREECE’ series is the biggest-selling Greek compilation series in Australian history. The series has broken all barriers with availability in mainstream music stores such as Sanity, JB HiFi, Virgin, Myer and Big W. My first two albums made Top 40 in the ARIA charts and my last three albums have charted in top 20 Dance charts on iTunes in Australia.

BC: As a promoter you have staged around 300 events in the 20 years. How do you manage to juggle your music, club nights, touring artists? Any artists you would like to bring out?
KK: When you love your work, it can be done! I have been promoting club nights in Sydney’s elite venues for many years now. I enjoy bringing out and associating with Greek acts that have a great style and sound, and in the last few years I have organised tours for Vegas, Master Tempo, Stavento, Nikos Ganos and Sarbel. Look out for some great shows in 2016!
This Boxing Day I’m hosting an event at one of the great iconic venues – The Basement in Sydney. The night before I am launching my new CD in Adelaide at Arkaba.

Krazy Kon’s compilation is available online at www.krazymusic.com.au (delivery across Australia) or from Oakleigh Music Centre, Caras Music, Pantheon Music Melbourne Sounds Music Café, Souxe Café (Sydney) Parthenon Emporium (Adelaide) and on iTunes worldwide.
