Last Sunday saw both young and old Greek Australians gathered for the 36th Dimitria Festival in Oakleigh.

Organised by the Pan Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria, the annual Macedonian Glendi showcased the best of the region’s food and dancing, giving festival-goers the chance to celebrate and learn about the region.

Both sides of politics took part, with Labor candidates Jennifer Yang and Steve Dimopoulos and Liberal candidate Theo Zographos mingling with voters. They were also joined by Labour MP Jenny Mikakos, the president of the Greek community of Melbourne and Victoria, Bill Papastergiadis and the Greek consul general in Melbourne Christina Simantirakis.

In a show of true Hellenism, the dancing wasn’t just restricted to the stage, but hundreds joined in on the street to show their Greek dancing chops.
