As thousands of Australians prepare to travel to Greece for the European summer, the Australian government has issued a warning about drink spiking.

The advice issued on the Smart Traveller website was mainly aimed at those visiting the major tourist islands such as Mykonos, Santorini and Ios.

Otherwise, the current level of advice for Australians to exercise normal safety precautions has not changed, encouraging travellers to be mindful.

“Exercise common sense and look out for suspicious behaviour,” states the site.

While capital controls do exist in Greece, currently there are no withdrawal limits for foreign cards.
