The Greek tragedy inspired play Elektra/Orestes, contemplating the story of the House of Atreus, will be staged at Sydney’s Belvoir St Theatre.

The vicious cycle of younger generations facing the wrongs of the previous generation comes to life through the contemporary Clytemnestra and Agamemnon’s sacrifice which weighs on their children. Katherine Tonkin, as Elektra, stalks her mother’s palace looking for a way to achieve some semblance of justice, while Hunter Page-Lochard, a modern day Orestes, lives in exile.

Playwrights Anne-Louise Sarsks and Jada Alberts team up to make the audience wonder – where does love, justice and revenge fit in a disordered world of natural disaster and war. Is taking the law into one’s own hands and going to extreme actions justified by the need to rectify a staggering situation? Who is responsible for the state of things and what can any one of us possibly do about it? The Electra/Orestes epic is proof that everything old is new again, portraying an ancient Greek myth which truly resembles the world we live in.

Tickets cost $72 for adults, $62 for seniors, $49 for concession. Previews are $50, while student saver is at $39.
