A ferry by the name of Panagia Tinou was discovered to be sinking yesterday Tuesday 26 April at the Port of Piraeus, with port staff and fire fighters rushing to save the vessel.

It was reported that the 40-year-old ship, which weighs 5,500 tonnes, was empty at the time, given that the ferry has been docked permanently for some time due to financial difficulties with operators Ventouris Sea Lines.

It in its long history on the water, the ferry has safely transported hundreds of thousands of passengers from Athens to numerous Greek islands, including popular holiday destinations Syros and Mykonos.
