It might be two games to go before the finals race begins, but the Hawthorn Spartans are already looking ahead, after clearing a huge percentage lead over their opponents.

They are sitting on 13 straight wins, and are close to being undefeated for two seasons straight.

Their win last week against Mt Lilydale pushed their ladder lead even further, with eight points differentiating them from the second placed Old Xaverians.

The win last week was sweeter for the Spartans after having to adjust to a under-strength team with some players out of action.

Defence was once again the Spartan’s best performer, with the team only conceding four goals to make up a final score of 92-34.

The team had to adjust to very icy and difficult conditions, but proved that working as a cohesive unit is key in winning and keeping possession of the ball. They managed only 12 turnovers for the whole match.

Anthony Marguccio should be commended for his outstanding ruck work and combining well with the midfielders. His almighty vertical leap kept knocking out
the opposing ruckman accidentally, which had Mt Lilydale hungry for revenge.

The Spartans now face their last home match, this week, up against Masala.

The team is calling for all fans to come see them play for the last time before finals, with the canteen open for those needing a break from the chilly weather.

Hawthorn Spartans will take on Masala at 11.40 am at Rathmines Road Reserve.
