Furniture king Franco Cozzo has put his Footscray flagship store on the market and is seeking buyers for the 1088-square-metre shop.

Known to the migrant community of Melbourne for his kitsch advertising and garish furniture, Franco Cozzo, 78, has had the store in his hands since 1968,

Much loved by the Greek Australian community for his use of targeted advertising, ingeniously translating his “grand sales” pitch into Greek and Italian, the father of 10 will take all offers for his store front.

No price is listed for the property, but Mr Cozzo is hoping potential buyers will keep the furniture store on the premises.

He concedes he might have to close the store if the new owners want to develop the are into apartments.

He says he has no plans to close the Sydney Road business anytime soon.

Mr Cozzo migrated to Australia from Italy in 1956 and started selling televisions, refrigerators and washing machines door-to-door.

He opened his first furniture store in 1959, expanding it to Brunswick and North Melbourne.
