For many in the Greek Orthodox community, Father Themi Adamopoulos is a true hero. The former rocker turned Marxist missionary has been doing remarkable work in the Mission of Sierra Leone, helping the local community survive the Ebola epidemic and healing the wounds left by the combination of poverty, civil war and the deadly virus.

Now his supporters in Melbourne are calling for everyone wishing to contribute to attend a high tea, on Sunday 22 May at 2.30 pm, at the Tay Creggan Ballroom in Hawthorn (30 Yarra Street).

The event is organised by the Paradise4Kids charity; Father Themi will attend via Skype, providing updates on his work with the mission. All proceeds (the suggested donation is $60) will be used for the orphans of the Ebola crisis in the region, and will be used for the purchase of children’s special shoes (from the non-profit Shoe-that-grows manufacturer, which invented a kind of sandal adapting to the growth of children’s feet) and books.

Anyone wishing to donate children’s books (suitable for children ages prep to grade 2, in fairly good condition), are encouraged to bring them along to the high tea.

Given that there will be limited tickets available at the door, organisers advise pre-booking. Anyone interested, should contact Jane Pallot (0404 040 578) or Monique Mokdissi (0418 553 921).

The bank account details for The Rev. Themi and Friends Trust are: BSB 084-435, Account Number 74-410-6860.
