Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art’s annual arts and music festival MONA FOMA, running from 18-22 January, will be taken over by more than 200 artists.

This year’s line-up includes some Greek-inspired music, with an Amsterdam-based avante garde opera collective performing a new play fusing Byzantine Greek, Jewish and Turkish folk elements.

The work is entitled Before the Flame Goes Out, Memorial to the Jewish Martyrs of Ioannina, Greece.

Meanwhile, the widely lauded, one-woman show Peaches Christ Superstar, featuring Chilly Gonzales’ piano, will see transgressive electro rocker Peaches present a new take on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical.

tētēma, the musical project of Faith No More frontman Mike Patton and Australian composer/pianist Anthony Pateras, also promises to be among the most popular international headliners.

The duo will be performing live for the first time as part of the Weekend at Walshy’s festival line-up.

In terms of visual art and installations, the highly-anticipated On the Origin of Art will present 234 objects from 35 countries, on loan from 58 institutions.
