Clio Roussomoustakaki is a young teacher from Sitia (Crete), who originally went to Nepal for vacations with her sister and her boyfriend but stayed to to teach English to poor children of a small village.
The group arrived in Nepal fifteen days before the devastating catastrophe hit Kathmandu.
Clio’s sister left the country a few days ago, but Clio stayed in Nepal with her boyfriend, because as she told her mother, the faces of the Nepalese children had made her heart melt and she wanted to volunteer and help the community.
The woman is reportedly safe and returning to Greece.
“I am fine but the infrastructure of the country has been damaged, due to the strong earthquake and aftershocks,” Clio told Lifo.
She also mentioned her that the airport was closed. She wlaked for two hours to reach the closest village and find a way to inform her family via the web.
“I would love to stay here and help, but it is impossible,” Clio added.
“I am in Lamjung, an area quite close to the centre of the quake, but in the village people aren’t panicking.”
“I realised the magnitude of the catastrophe when I went to the city seeking internet connection to tell my family I’m safe,” she told.
People were screaming and running terrified. I myself got extremely scared at times even though I still haven’t seen what happened to Kathmandu.”
