Fresh from its launch earlier this year, the Hellenic Heart foundation has shipped 469 boxes containing 11,535 units to Greece in an effort to support struggling families through the economic woes faced by the country.
The items included clothing, toys, baby feeding equipment, sanitary items, blankets, linen and stationery.
Owner Rea Liapis said she is overwhelmed by the response Hellenic Heart has received since getting off the ground and is reaching out to Melbourne’s Greek community to assist those facing hardship ahead of the Christmas period here, with some items left over from those sent to Greece.
“I would love to create care packages for local Greeks needing some help,” she said.
