It is seventy-seven years since Greece defied the fascist ultimatum of Mussolini to enter Greece and answered ‘No’ on 28 October 1940.

To commemorate the nation’s heroic stance and the memory of the war heroes, the Hellenic RSL sub branch is hosting a commemorative event for OXI Day on Saturday 28 October.

A church service will take place at St Eustathios Greek Orthodox Church (211 Dorcas St, South Melbourne) at 9.30 am. This will be followed by wreath-laying ceremonies at the Australian Hellenic Memorial (cnr of Birdwood and Anzac Ave, Domain Gardens) at noon and at the Shrine of Remembrance at 1.00 pm.

The commemorations will continue at the Hellenic RSL sub branch’s Memorial Hall (14A Ferrars Pl, South Melbourne) for a light lunch.
