The Napthine Government will be giving homeowners on the proposed path of the East West Link route ‘intentions to acquire’ their homes at the start of August.

Property owners in Melbourne’s inner north, many of who are of Greek decent have been told over the phone to expect a notice and to start preparing an impending move.

They will be given a minimum two-month period before the government takes hold of their houses.

The Linking Melbourne Authority that is in charge of the project says people will be handed notices after the project area has been declared. The changing route of the link has caused a lot of uncertainty for residents and has affected the value of houses that will be bordering the link.

The Authority says the notices will be issued in the near future, but expect residents won’t have to vacate their properties for at least a year.

The proposed route for the East West Link will link the Eastern Freeway to the Western Ring Road, passing through Melbourne’s inner north, including the suburbs of Clifton Hill, Fitzroy North, Brunswick, and Mooney Ponds.
