Former Liverpool star and Greek international Sotirios Kyrgiakos is headed to Australia for two guest games with Sydney Olympic FC.

The 34-year-old will make his debut for the NPL team in round two of the season against Blacktown Spartans on March 23 at Belmore Sports Ground.

Kyrgiakos last visited Australia in 2006 when Greece played a friendly fixture against the Socceroos at the MCG in front of a crowd of almost 100,000.

Kyrgiakos has played for a string of clubs in Europe -Liverpool FC, Eintract Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, Glasgow Rangers, Sunderland, AEK Athens and Panathinaikos.

Olympic has made no secret on it’s been trying to secure three Greek international players. The club mentioned it was in talks with Angelos Charisteas and Pantelis Kafes, but no word yet on whether the two will make it to Australia. Charisteas is still awaiting leave from national service but a contract has been mailed to him.
