Although popular for her outrageous outfits, while in Athens last week pop icon Lady Gaga took style inspiration from Athens’ architecture as she headed to the Olympic Stadium dressed as a caryatid, for a performance as part of her tour ArtRave: The Artpop Ball.

Emerging from her hotel, the 28-year-old looked angelic in a white gown and a jewelled headdress. Similar to the statues, which are used throughout Greek architecture in the place of columns or pillars, the Born This Way singer wore her blonde locks down in a braid while slipping into a sheer, flowing, layered chiffon gown.

The star made it no secret that she is a fan of ancient and modern Greece, as during the concert she draped the Greek flag around herself and made a brief reference to the crisis in Greece.

“If the Acropolis, Parthenon and all these amazing architecture monuments managed to survive, then you can survive!” the pop superstar screamed to her fans who cheered her on.

Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni, who was among the thousands who gathered at the American pop star’s concert, said the fact that Lady Gaga sang while wearing the Greek flag and said such nice things about the Greeks and the country is very important.

The extravagant singer took to Instagram to share her ancient Greek look, posting two pictures of her outfit, with one of her captions reading: “Like many who inspired and came before us, tonight we put ART in the front.”
