Almost 50 factory workers in Alexandroupoli will be out of work in June, when manufacturing group Maillis is planning to shut down its plant in the area. The announcement was made on Thursday, coming with the pledge that compensation package for the affected employees will be higher than what the law mandates. The closure is part of a restructuring of the group's operations. Another casualty of this procedure will be a plant in Italy - the combined closures will result to almost 100 jobs lost. The group, which is controlled by the US-based fund HIG, is planning to sell the machinery of the Alexandroupoli factory. No changes are seen taking place at the company’s headquarters and production plant at Oinofyta, north of Athens.
