Mark Webber says Red Bull is keen to keep him in the driver’s seat, but there are rumours that Lewis Hamilton is considering shifitng away from McLaren to join Red Bull at the expense of Mark Webber’s position.

Webber’s regular one-year Red Bull contract is yet to be signed for 2012 and with Red Bull team principal Christian Horner making a very public approach to Hamilton in Canada during the Montreal GP a couple weeks ago, there’s speculation that the move may be on at the conclusion of the F1 season.

Sebastian Vettel continues to dominate the championship points table with Mark Webber in second place, but if the crunch comes Webber’s age, current performance and defiance against Horner lately would be a large factor in who is more likely to go from Red Bull to make way for Lewis Hamilton.

There is a twist to all this. If pushed, Mark Webber may then move to Ferrari in a one-year deal to replace Felipe Massa next year. Canadian Grand Prix winner Jenson Button has also been linked to a move to Ferrari, but the McLaren driver has also played down the suggestion.
