Melbourne City player Haris Stamboulidis has been selected for the national Greek youth team.

Stamboulidis told Neos Kosmos from Athens that “it’s a great honour to represent Greece at any level”.

The national Greek youth team is due to play two friendlies against Ukraine, one was played on Saturday and one will be played today (Monday).

Haris built a name for himself at Greek sponsored club Heidelberg United, and recently was shortlisted as one of the 18 youngsters set to travel to the School Sports Australian national team tour of the UK and Ireland.

Speaking to Neos Kosmos late last year, Haris admitted he had international call-up ambitions, but was torn with who to pick if the situation arose.

“I guess whoever gives me the opportunity first,” he said.

“It would be an honour to represent any national team.”
