Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak will serve a four-match ban handed down by England’s Football Association (FA) after accepting a charge of violent conduct for elbowing West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho.

Jedinak, who skippers Crystal Palace in the Premier League, appeared to deliberately elbow Sakho in the face towards the end of the 3-1 win at Upton Park last weekend in an incident missed by the referee but subsequently reviewed by an FA panel.

He was ruled out of this morning’s (AEDT) Premier League trip to Southampton, as well as subsequent fixtures against Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City and Manchester City.

“Mile Jedinak will serve a four-match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted an FA charge of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video,” the FA said in a statement.

“The incident involving the Crystal Palace midfielder and West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho took place in the 87th minute of their fixture on Saturday (28 February 2015).

“The player’s suspension consists of three matches for violent conduct with an additional one match as he has previously been dismissed this season (against Sunderland in November).”
