Oakleigh Cannons coach Miron Bleiberg has stepped down and will be moving back to Brisbane saying family constraints necessitated the move.

Announcing it on twitter last night, the coach said it was his decision to leave, and believed it was “time to head back home to Brisbane”.

Oakleigh Cannon’s board have announced Greek Australian coach Arthur Papas will take over from Bleiberg, saying they are “indebted to Papas for his willingness to assist on such short notice”.

Bleiberg says the club is in good hands with Papas at the helm, saying “it’s better for the club to bring someone local than for me to stay half committed. Wish Oakleigh all the very best.”.

Papas has just returned from a big stint in India where he was head coach of Indian I-League side Dempo SC and was in charge of restructuring of India’s youth development programs.

He was the 2011 Victorian premier league coach of the year for Oakleigh Cannons and later went on to manage Newcastle Jets and Australia’s under 17s.
