Panathinaikos made up for its Champions League failure by demolishing Midtjylland Denmark 4-1 in the first leg of the Europa League play-off matches last week.

Asteras Tripolis also managed to push through, this time with a clean sheet up agianst Macabi Tel-Aviv 2-0.

Sadly for the Greek teams, PAOK wan’t able to secure a simple win, falling 0-1 to Moldovan club Zimbru.

The Cypriot teams had mixed results, with both Omonia and Apollon Limassol ended their matches in 2-2 and 1-1 draws respectively.

AEL failed to get an equaliser, and finished 1-2 against Tottenham.

The return legs will be played on August 28

Cypriot champions APOEL managed to get a significant 1-1 draw in Denmark this week, when they faced Aalborg BK V in a play off match for the Champions
League.

“It was a positive result for us, but we still have a difficult battle to qualify. We play the next match at home with our fans and we will prepare for a very big game,” said APOLE coach Giorgos Donis after the match.

The return match in the Cypriot capital Nicosia will be held next Tuesday August 26.
