According to our sources the selected languages will be integrated in to the new curriculum in three stages, beginning from July 1 2011.

The Chinese and the Italian language will be the first set of languages to be integrated, due to their recognition as languages of national priority as they cater for the greater number of learners.

Within weeks the French, German, Spanish, Japanese Indonesian and Korean languages will be added followed by Modern Greek and Arabic by the end of 2011.

In addition, ACARA has changed the status of the Greek language from “Ethnic” to “Heritage” language a welcome change that enhances the importance the Modern Greek language for Australia and its people.

Greek Community educationists hailed the decision of ACARA “decision of great importance for the future of the Greek language in the Australian education system”.
