Greece enjoyed the fifth-biggest increase in Google searches from the UK market this year in the category of emerging holiday destinations, according to a chart published by the world’s biggest online search engine.

Italy was top, followed by Iceland and Portugal.

Meanwhile the Hellenic American Tourism Chamber described as promising Greece’s prospects of absorbing a greater share of US tourists after Delta Airlines’ recent decision to increase its services to Athens, reaching up to 11 flights per week.

Chamber president Giorgos Trivizas noted that the average travel spending per US tourist amounts to 2,500 euros.
