Defence Minister Panos Kammenos on Tuesday reiterated his proposal for army facilities in the southern Aegean to be made available for use by NATO units as part of the fight against terrorism.

Kammenos, who had expressed a willingness during a recent trip to Washington to allow the creation of a NATO base in the southern Aegean, reaffirmed his belief in such a move during a speech at a navy training centre.

The defence minister’s previous references to such initiatives have prompted complaints from Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s office, which has argued that Kammenos’s proposals are not official government policy.
