The new Greek ambassador to Australia arrived in Canberra on Monday 11 January, to replace Haris Dafaranos, who left his position at the end of 2015.

Prior to her appointment in Australia, Ekaterini Xagorari, 52, has served in Turkey and Cyprus.

Accompanied by her husband and son, she was formally welcomed by the chief of protocol branch of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Lyndall Sachs.

The new ambassador is expected to present her credentials to the governor general by the end of February.
