Tennis young gun Nick Kyrgios has been handed a free pass into the last 32 of the French Open after his opponent, Kyle Edmund withdrew with a stomach injury.

“Unfortunately I have had to withdraw from my second round match here at Roland Garros due to an abdominal injury,” Edmunds wrote on Twitter.

“On doctors advice and to avoid making the injury worse I have withdrawn to recover and prepare for the grass.”

Edmund’s pullout leaves Australia’s 29th seed facing a likely third-round crack at third seed Andy Murray, who faces Joao Sousa on Thursday at Roland Garros.
