Macarthur Greeks is a newly incorporated entity in NSW, with the key objective being to provide the facilitation of cultural community services to Greeks in the Macarthur region.

“Our common goal is to engage with the Greek community and to use some of the fantastic venues that this region has to offer to connect Hellenes,” says the group’s spokesman John K. Tsekas.

“For this reason we are holding an inauguration event in September, offering the opportunity for all age groups to engage in different activities.”

While most Greeks from the region usually congregate at the Liverpool Church, Tsekas found that as the Greek community evolves and branches out, the multi-ethnic families tend to slowly lose touch with the community.

“Younger generations are time poor and have competing interests – of which Greek culture and language learning, not to mention dance, is a low priority,” he says.

“Sometimes there is [a] will, but [it] is quite difficult to access Greek dance and Greek food in the local area.”

The inauguration is a free event, but due to venue requirements, bookings are essential. The hosts will also provide afternoon coffee and tea accompanied by traditional Greek sweets.

When: Saturday 13 September 2015 from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm

Where: Campbelltown Arts Centre, 1 Art Gallery Rd, Campbelltown NSW
