A number of original paintings by Melbourne artist and graphic designer Mr George Petrou, related to the Anzac story and the Lemnos connection, are available for purchase.

The works are a result of the artist’s own interpretations from the Lemnos Anzac archive, and include a poignant painting of Lance Corporal Albert Jacka on Lemnos in 1915, and Matron Grace Wilson.

The works were displayed recently in Melbourne as a part of a photographic exhibition called ‘Lemnos and Gallipoli – A Story in Pictures’. Organised and curated by historian and Lemnos Gallipoli Commemorative Committee secretary Jim Claven, the exhibition included 40 iconic images from 1915, taken by the diggers themselves.

Mr Petrou’s paintings gave the exhibition a splash of colour and were very much the crowd favourite at the exhibition.

“George has created these stunning artworks, drawing on his interpretation of the Lemnos Anzac archive,” Lee Tarlamis, president of the Lemnos Gallopoli Commemmorative Committee says.

“They feature some of the famous diggers and nurses who walked on Lemnos, as well as village scenes.”
