After touring venues in Europe, Asia and America, the major international exhibition ‘The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece’ is now in Australia, until 9 November 2014.

Spread across eight galleries, the exhibition features more than 100 treasures from the British Museum’s world famous Greek and Roman collection.
Subject areas explored include the representation of human experiences such as sex and desire, outsiders, birth, marriage and death.

As part of the exhibition-related events, on Wednesday 15 October at 10.00 am, morning tea will be held at La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre, with guest speaker Gillian Shepherd, lecturer in Ancient Mediterranean Studies and director of the Trendall Centre. Ms Shepherd will unveil the practices around death and the afterlife in ancient Greece.

On Friday 17 October, both international exhibitions currently on display at the Bendigo Art Gallery – ‘The Body Beautiful of Ancient Greece’ and ‘Undressed: 350 years of underwear in fashion’ will have extended hours till 8.00 pm on this night only.
