After a contraction in May, Australia wide retail spending rose 0.6 per cent to $23.2 billion in June, twice as quickly as estimated by experts. Most of the growth is due to spending on furniture, floor coverings and clothes.

In the meantime, the average number of newspaper and online job advertisements rose to 133,300 in July from a month earlier to finish the 12-month period four per cent higher, according to ANZ’s monthly survey.
