Brisbane Roar’s Asian Champions League prospects have been dealt a blow after Suwon Bluewings claimed a deserved 3-1 win in South Korea.

Both teams were locked on four points in Group G, with Bluewings ahead in second place only on goal difference, and a tight first half saw the table look exactly the same at 0-0.

But Bluewings would soon burst ahead in a 20 minute barrage that produced three goals.

Half-time substitute Kwong Chang-hoon broke the deadlock only seven minutes after coming on, before Seo Jung-jin double Bluewings’ advantage to all but take the game away from the Roar.

The pick of the goals came from Yeom Ki-hun, who let fly with a brilliant, curling free-kick that left Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young helpless and established a 3-0 buffer by the 67th minute.

Brisbane would offer a response though, Luke DeVere nodding home Thomas Broich’s perfect free-kick in the 76th minute to provide some hope.

But although the Roar would press hard late in the second half, the result had already been sealed, with Brisbane now facing an uphill battle with only two group stage matches remaining.
