The World Council of Hellenes Abroad Oceania and Far East Region (SAE) Inc held its Annual General Meeting in Sydney last Sunday.

In the proceedings representatives from 62 member organisations of the regional SAE of Oceania and Far East took part, who amongst others voted to renew the term in office of the regional coordinator Giorgos Angelopoulos and his board. Their term will expire once the new regional assemblies take place in accordance with a new law for SAE, once the relevant bill passes through the Greek Parliament.

The participants expressed their concern about the way the new SAE law is prepared, without consultation with the organisations of the Hellenic diaspora, discussed issues affecting diaspora youth and decided to support all the events marking the 40th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in July and August 1974.
