Greece striker and former Celtic favourite Georgios Samaras has penned a two-year deal with West Bromwich Albion after months without a club.

Following six years in Scotland, Samaras will make a return to England, having previously featured for Manchester City, with reports suggesting Spanish side Malaga and West Brom’s EPL opponent Southampton are keen on the 29-year-old’s signature.

Samaras will now join Australian defender Jason Davidson, who also recently signed for the club.

Baggies manager Alan Irvine said he is excited by the experience that Samaras will bring to his team.

“He has played a lot of football at the highest levels, Champions League, European Championships and World Cups, and the feedback we’ve got on him, from people like (former Celtic manager) Neil Lennon, states he thrives on the big occasion,” Irvine said.

“He will certainly play in plenty of those in the Barclays Premier League.”

Samaras said he was looking forward to the challenge of again playing in the English Premier League.

“I feel really good,” he said.

“The people around the club are kind and I feel like it is a family club.

“It was an easy decision for me to come here. I want to help this team do well in the Premier League.

“It is the best league in the world and I’m really proud of myself to be here.”

Samaras will wear the number 30 for the Baggies.
