Four days before World Cup winners Germany take on Georgia in a Euro 2016 qualifying match, they will take on the Socceroos in a friendly.
While the fixture has not been formally announced by FIFA or either nation’s governing body, Germany’s team manager Oliver Bierhoff confirmed the match will happen at Kaiserslautern on 25 March.
“FFA is in advanced discussions with the DFB (German football association) about a friendly international and we hope to conclude those talks and confirm a match in the near future,” an FFA spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Australia beat Germany 2-1 when the teams last met in March 2011 in Monchengladbach.
Currently Australia is ranked 94th, the lowest ranking the team has held ever, while their future opponents have kept their top position all year.
