Still without a loss to their name for twelve matches, South Melbourne seems to be on cruise control till the finals.

The Greek sponsored team is entering its third match in eight days tomorrow as it takes on fellow Greek club Northcote City away.

Northcote have had a very chaotic season so far, trying to make the best of a half-hazard team sheet full of inexperienced youngsters. As the transfer window opens, Goran Lovanovski will be hoping to add some quality players to his side and boost their chances. Sitting in the middle of the ladder with a 4W 1D 7L track record with other 14 rounds to go, they still have a chance of making it to the finals, but results need to come quick and fast. Last week they were taken down by a superior Bentleigh Greens in a demoralising 4-0 loss.

On Saturday they have just as tough competition with ladder leaders South Melbourne chasing their 10th win.

On Tuesday, Chris Taylor’s boys managed to slot through five goals and earn themselves a clean sheet in the process when they took on Dandenong Thunder. Like in so many of their games, Milos Lujic was their saviour, scoring their first goal six minutes in, setting up the pace for the rest of the match.

Lujic also scored the winning goal last Friday against Avondale FC, making a habit of scoring in the first half.

The early goals have been a trademark of South Melbourne of late, sustaining the game with a strong defence.

It might not be very impressive football, but it’s made them the only team except for Bentleigh Greens to go undefeated.
