Week 23 of the Greek Super League will feature two all-important Athens versus Thessaloniki contests as Panthinaikos hosts PAOK, while Iraklis takes on AEK.

Iraklis, fresh off its impressive nil-1 win against rival PAOK in the Thessaloniki derby last week, will be looking to continue its impressive run of late as it makes a final push for the play-offs.

The Thessaloniki side is currently eighth, five points off fifth-placed PAOK. A win against AEK would go a long way towards helping Iraklis edge closer to the teams above it.

AEK also goes into the game brimming with confidence following its 1-nil win against league leader Olympiakos last week.

AEK ended Olympiakos’ undefeated run 22 games thanks to a Ronald Vargas goal in the 78th minute, when he struck home the rebound after Diego Buonanotte’s penalty kick hit the post.

Olympiakos was left with nine players after Luka Milivojevic was dismissed with a second yellow card for handling the ball inside the area, a call which led to the penalty kick.

Olympiakos had also lost Alberto Botia in the 47th with a direct red card for a last-man foul. AEK’s Rodrigo Gallo was also dismissed, in the 86th.
Iraklis takes on AEK tonight at 7.30 pm Greek time.

Earlier on Saturday, Levadiakos takes on Kalloni and Asteras Tripolis meets Giannina.
On Sunday, league leader Olympiakos takes on Atromitos at 3.00 pm, Xanthi meets Panthrakikos at 5.15 pm, while at the same time Platanias takes on Panetolikos.
The match of the round features third-placed Panathinaikos at home to fifth-placed PAOK.

The Greens are searching for a victory that will further distance the team from those below as well as chasing a spot in the play-offs, while PAOK is desperate to pick up points that will keep it in the top five, following a series of poor results that has seen it go four games without a win.
