Eight teams, including a team from the Country Fire Service (CFS), will take part in the State Emergency Service’s State Training Challenge, which will be held this coming weekend.

The challenge will be held at the SA Metropolitan Fire Service’s Training Centre at 480 Grand Junction Road, Angle Park and will be open for the public to attend.

The participation of a team from the CFS is a first for the event. The CFS team will comprise volunteers from the agency’s Murray Bridge and Jervois brigades.

State Emergency Service (SES) Chief Officer Chris Beattie said the challenge was essentially a training and team-building exercise.

It is aimed at being a friendly challenge where SES and CFS volunteers will be able to demonstrate their expertise while building on their skill base.
The eight teams will take part in a series of simulated scenarios designed to test rescue skills along with storm damage and land search operations.

Some of the scenarios will involve removing casualties so leadership and delegation, along with safety and basic first aid skills, will be put to the test.

The challenge will be open to the public from 8am to 3pm on Saturday, 28 May and from 8am to 12pm on Sunday, 29 May. Visitors will be given a safety briefing before entering the site and must wear enclosed footwear.
