Neurosurgeon Helen Maroulis has left Monash Medical Centre after the hospital began investigating bullying allegations against her.

The accusations were first brought to light by a Four Corners investigation that interviewed a former junior surgeon Imogen Ibbett that said that Dr Maroulis was “extremely abusive”.

“A lot of the nursing staff won’t work with her. A lot of them are very, very scared of her,” Dr Ibbett told Four Corners.

Dr Maroulis was accused of shouting at staff, making unreasonable demands of them and would throw surgical equipment.

Monash Medical Centre says Dr Maroulis has cut ties with the hospital.

“Dr Helen Maroulis no longer works for Monash Health. We wish her well in the future,” a spokesman told The Age.

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, which is responsible for training programs, is also investigating the matter.
