Conn Emmanuelle’s exhibition to be shown in Adelaide is largely based around a previous photographic exhibit, which took place in Prahran, Melbourne in December 2014. The artist’s works revolve around three main themes: Migration, cultural heritage and health and lifestyle.
On display will be large reproductions of family photos that were either brought to Melbourne by immigrants from Cyprus or sent by loved ones from back home.
These photos are, in most cases, the only visual reminder of a distant past and time featured in large display panels that will also include ‘tales’ about the people in the photos.
Visitors to this exhibition will be able to make a number of comparisons between traditional society and our so-called modern society.

For example, comparing:
– vintage ‘analogue’ photography techniques of the past with today’s smartphone digital obsession.
– rural ‘sustainable’ lifestyles (including clothing and housing) with modern urban living complete with disposable consumerism lifestyles and processed food.
– close-knit family and community unity within a traditional rural village with the fragmented lifestyle of living in suburbs in large cities such as Melbourne.

The main objective of the exhibition is to pay tribute to the first generation diaspora and to celebrate their way of life before and after migration.
