Athenian Democracy might have influenced many of our modern political systems, but was it truly a fair society?

How far was its functioning reliant on slavery and empire?

These questions will be answered tonight as emeritus professor Ronald Thomas Ridley gives the lecture “The Athenian Democracy, how did it work?”.

Professor Ridley is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, the Royal Historical Society, and the Pontifical Academy of Archaeology in Rome.

The lecture will be held at the Greek Centre, Mezzanine Level, 168 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne at 7pm. Entry is free.
