The Pancretan Association of Melbourne, together with the Central Pontian Association of Melbourne ‘Pontiaki Estia’, both have a deep history in preserving their culture and traditions through music, dance, song, theatre and language.

This time they have decided to go one step further by hosting an event that will involve the cross culture and the similarities that exist between the Lyres of Greece, including Crete, Pontos, Drama and Constantinople.

The music and dance concert is titled The Lyres of Greece and will include international artists Serafim Marmaridis (Pontian lyra, vocals) from Thessaloniki and Grigoris Paragioudakis (lute, vocals) from Crete, together with local artists Sifis Tsourdalakis (Cretan lyra, vocals), Giorgos Sevastopoulos (Pontian lyra), George Kyriakidis (lyra Dramas), Patrick Montgommery (Politiki lyra), Kostas Kirkotsios (guitar), Sofia Karagianidou (vocals), Giorgos Athanasakos (oud), Dimitris Tzombanopoulos (percussion), Stefanos Eleftheriadis (drums).

The dance groups that will showcase the regions include Pontiaki Estia, Pancretan, Florina Aristotelis and Periklis.

The concert will take place on Sunday 10 July at the Christine Strachan Theatre, Bakers Road, South Oakleigh at 5.00 pm.

All proceeds from the event are going towards the George Treloar Memorial in Ballarat for the Pontian genocide as well as the multimedia systems at the Arkadi Monastery for the 150th anniversary.
